If something goes wrong while logging, syncing, backing up, importing, or purchasing, try the steps below first. If the issue remains, email the app version, iOS version, steps to reproduce, and a screenshot. Do not send a complete private archive, precise location history, your Apple Account password, or an unredacted backup.

Purchases and restore

1. Confirm that the device is signed in to the Apple Account used for the purchase and can reach the App Store.
2. Open My, find the one-time purchase card, and choose Restore Purchases.
3. Curio reports whether purchases were restored, none were available, or restoration failed. If products cannot load, check the network and choose Retry.

Curio Plus, Curio Lifetime, and the Lifetime Upgrade are one-time, non-consumable purchases and never renew automatically. Plus includes 5 active hobbies, deeper analysis, and complete creative tools. Lifetime adds unlimited active hobbies, the complete annual journal, and the option to hide the Curio mark. The upgrade requires a valid Plus purchase. The App Store price is controlling; request refunds through Apple purchase history or Report a Problem.

iCloud sync and historical backups

• Cross-device sync and historical backups are separate controls. Sync keeps current data up to date; historical backups keep rolling recovery copies.
• In iOS Settings, confirm that an Apple Account is signed in to iCloud and that iCloud is enabled for Curio. Devices must use the same Apple Account. Initial sync and large media libraries may take time.
• iOS creates historical backups on a best-effort schedule, not on an exact day. Open My → Complete Backup to view and delete individual copies. Clearing every historical copy also turns off automatic creation.
• Curio still works without an iCloud account or with sync off, but current data remains only on that device. Turning sync off or uninstalling Curio does not automatically delete data already in iCloud.

Complete backup, restore, and deletion

• Create a backup: Open My → Complete Backup and choose Create Complete Backup. The file includes hobbies, items, inventory, records, portable preferences, and media referenced by active records. If iCloud media has not downloaded, connect to the network and retry.
• Save or send: Choose Save to Files or the system share sheet. A .curiobackup may contain private records, photos, audio, and video. Send it only to a trusted location or app.
• Restore: Select a backup on the same screen. After validation, Curio shows active item, record, and media counts. Confirming replaces current data, so save a separate current backup first.
• Delete local content: Delete the relevant item, inventory entry, session, or attachment. Curio has no trash. Deletion erases user content and related media, leaving only a content-free sync tombstone that prevents an old device from restoring it. Uninstalling does not automatically delete iCloud copies.
• Delete iCloud data: First delete visible historical backups in Curio. Then open iOS Settings → Apple Account → iCloud → Manage Account Storage, find Curio, and delete its data.

System capture, history imports, and label recognition

• Journaling Suggestions: Open Start from This Day to show Apple’s system picker. Curio can read only the suggestion you select. If nothing is available, confirm that iOS has suggestions, then try again.
• Share extension: Select Curio from the share sheet in Photos, Files, or another supported app. Back in Curio, confirm the hobby and content on the preview screen. Cancelling creates no record.
• Competitor history import: Select a supported official export from the other app. Curio does not sign in to competitor accounts or scrape third-party catalogs. Review validation and the issue list before confirming.
• Label OCR: Recognition runs on device and produces candidates only. Retake the image if text is small, reflective, or poorly lit. Choose or edit each candidate before saving the profile.

Camera, photography meter, and other permissions

Open iOS Settings → Privacy & Security to review Camera, Photos, Microphone, Speech Recognition, and Location access. The photography meter requires Camera access, uses the live rear-camera view to calculate exposure, and does not save that view. Label recognition can use an image you take or select. After denying Photos, text records still work. After denying Location, you can still search, create a place manually, or select a fishing spot manually. Only places you explicitly save enter your archive and private iCloud; Curio does not track in the background or upload your current location to the developer.

Local notifications

• Curio asks for notification permission only when you enable a related reminder. Open My → Notifications to review system status and preferences.
• Your reminders include revisit dates, plants, opened wine, beauty reviews, and continuations. Brew-step and archive-ready notifications have separate switches.
• If system permission is off, dates stay in your records but iOS shows no notification. Tap notification status in Curio Settings to reopen iOS Settings.
